On May 14, Dr. Wang Xiaoxiao, Deputy Director of Lifelong Education Department of Tsinghua University, visited Huaxia Curriculum Forum and made a report entitled “Practice and reflection of online education - taking Tsinghua University as an example”. The forum was presided over by Associate Professor Yang Xiaozhe, Executive Director of the International Classroom Analysis Laboratory of East China Normal University. Wang Xiaoming, Wang Zhe and Liu Junyan of ICI attended the forum.

Content of the Report

Wang made an analysis from three aspects of online education, including its development, new starting point and continuous innovation.

Wang first talked about MOOC, she pointed out that MOOC originated from the joint promotion of the state, the government, the school and other forces. In response to the call of the state and the government, Tsinghua University actively promoted online education.

Wang then introduced a key project of Tsinghua University- “Research and practice of extensible blended teaching model”. As a relevant outcome of the project, “Rain Classroom”, which integrates flipping classroom tools, instant evaluation tools, classroom interaction tools, homework examination tools and data report tools, is an intelligent teaching toolbox.

With the rapid development of online education during the epidemic, Tsinghua University implemented online education and launched the “Weiyang Plan”. Under the plan, students are supposed to use “Hetang Rain Classroom”, which set up synchronous classes, and strengthen the cultivation of students’ online learning ability, and their autonomous learning ability.

Wang believed that online education has become the new normal of teaching and learning. Without the practice and exploration of online education before the epidemic, there would be no continuous innovation of online education technology, and no basis for international cooperation in online education.

Wang proposed that Tsinghua University will continue to innovate online education, strengthen international cooperation in online instruction, carry out Global Hybrid Classroom, and constantly expand knowledge sharing models.

During the discussion session, Wang conducted in-depth interaction with the present audiences around the problem of the promotion of online education, the way to evaluate learning through online education, the application of artificial intelligence etc.
