ICI Conference║ICI held the "Classroom Intelligent Analysis Seminar" to professionally lead the iterative development of classroom intelligent analysis

On the morning of June 27, ICI held a "Classroom Intelligent Analysis Seminar" in Room 1606 of the Liberal Arts Building.Guests from Shanghai Intelligent Education Research Institute,including Dean Zhou Aimin, Vice Dean Jiang Bo, Researcher Lin Shaohui, Associate Researcher Li Ling , Professor Chen Shuangye from Executive Deputy Director of the School of Education, and ICI experts including Cui Yunhuo, Yang Xiaozhe, Shi Yuchen, Wang Zuhao, Wang Yanling, Wang Zhe attended the seminar. The meeting was hosted by Yang Xiaozhe, Director of the International Classroom Analysis Laboratory.


Professor Chen Shuangye, Executive Deputy Director of the School of Education, delivered a welcome speech. On behalf of the School of Education and the Institute of Curriculum and Instruction, Professor Chen Shuangye welcomed the visit of experts from the Shanghai Intelligent Education Research Institute, hoping that both sides would work together on the basis of existing research on classroom intelligent analysis and jointly promote the high-quality development of the school.


01 Construction status of classroom analysis projects in Shanghai Intelligent Education Research Institute



Professor Zhou Aimin, Dean of Shanghai Intelligent Education Research Institute, gave an overall introduction to the intelligent system of colleges and universities. Dean Zhou introduced the research progress and challenges of the intelligent system of colleges and universities from the aspects of theoretical framework and technological breakthroughs. Dean Zhou said that the core technology of the classroom analysis system must be independently created by East China Normal University, and how to combine theory with technology requires the joint efforts of experts from both sides.


Li Ling, a full-time associate researcher at the Shanghai Institute of Intelligent Education, shared the observation index construction and system design plan of the AIevaluation system for classroom teaching quality in colleges and universities, and introduced in detail the intelligent evaluation system for daily teaching in our school and the intelligent evaluation system for micro-teaching training for normal students.


Lin Shaohui, a young researcher from the School of Computer Science and Technology, shared the research and development progress of the AI evaluation system for classroom teaching quality in colleges and universities.



02 ICI International Classroom Analysis Laboratory and Classroom Intelligent Diagnosis System Construction Status



Associate Professor Yang Xiaozhe, director of the International Classroom Analysis Laboratory, introduced the recent work of the International Classroom Analysis Laboratory, and shared with the experts on the aspects of the breakthrough technology and the technology that has not yet been broken through in the high-quality classroom intelligent analysis system.


In the early research, the International Classroom Analysis Laboratory established a large-scale manually annotated image database, and has established a raw data foundation containing 60,000 classroom video data and 1 million teaching plans, and has obtained 2 software copyrights for classroom intelligent analysis. The research team has initially realized classroom-specific pattern recognition, such as student posture recognition in the classroom, automatic recognition of classroom types, classroom speaker recognition, classroom question recognition, classroom teacher-student interaction recognition, and classroom discourse event analysis. High-quality classroom intelligent analysis systems have been routinely applied in 100 primary and secondary schools.


03 Communication



At the meeting, the two sides discussed the technical aspects and theoretical development of the construction of intelligent analysis platforms at home and abroad.


Experts at the meeting pointed out that higher education and basic education are very different. The framework of classroom analysis should clarify the characteristics of different types of classrooms. The preliminary version of the classroom analysis platform can first present basic classroom information. How to establish a relationship between teaching behavior and teaching effect is the focus of the next research. In the future, classroom analysis should help improve the professional level of teachers and test the effectiveness of education. It should also pay attention to students in the classroom. At the same time, it can focus on the development and sharing of excellent lesson examples and high-quality resources, and the effect of the platform on the learning and growth of young teachers.



04 Further Development and Direction



Finally, Professor Cui Yunhuo, ICI director, made a summary. Professor Cui Yunhuo believes that there are management orientations and professional orientations behind the construction of the classroom intelligent analysis platform. How to balance the tension between the two orientations is crucial. Before a complete theoretical framework is constructed, classroom data can be presented by grasping key indicators and factual indicators, and the correlation between data should be further taken into consideration. Professor Cui Yunhuo believes that there are many complementary aspects between the classroom analysis system of colleges and universities and the classroom analysis system of primary and secondary schools. Both sides need to strengthen communication, emphasize on reflection at the theoretical level and development at the technical level, and jointly promote the development of classroom analysis.
