On the afternoon of May 7, ICI organized teachers to carry out a special seminar on the theme of "improving the teaching quality of graduate courses". The meeting was chaired by Yang Xiaozhe, secretary of the Party Branch of the Department of Curriculum. At the meeting, all teachers listened to the report of Liu Junyan, deputy director of the department, on the evaluation and investigation of graduate courses in the past five years, and carried out collective refinement of the master level compulsory course-"Instruction theory".

Liu Junyan made a report based on the student evaluation information of all courses in the ICI since 2019, as well as the anonymous questionnaire survey information conducted by ICI on academic graduate students in the early stage. The data showed that the average score of the department's courses has remained high over the years. The students in the survey also fully affirmed the quality of the department's courses and the effectiveness of teaching. At the same time, Liu Junyan also shared the "courses that I hope to add", "courses that I hope to adjust/improve", "suggestions on further improving teaching", "suggestions on further improving learning effects" and so on of the graduate students.

Subsequently, the teachers carried out collective refinement on the core content of the master level compulsory course-"instruction theory". This course is taught by Shi Yuchen and Wu Gangping. The content covers the formation and development of teaching theory, teaching design, teaching activities, teaching evaluation, as well as teaching research and management. The course highlights the characteristics of both Chinese and Western theories, focuses on presenting and interpreting academic disputes, and emphasizes the importance of pre-class reading and in-class discussion, striving to cultivate students' teaching theory thinking and critical perspective.

Shi Yuchen focused on introducing the main reading materials of the course, including important documents of representative scholars in the field of educational psychology today, focusing on how to understand teaching practice from a theoretical level, and explored the mutual influence and effective transformation path between theory and practice, helping students to better apply abstract theories to specific teaching situations.
Wu Gangping, starting from a theoretical perspective, emphasized the significance of teaching theory thinking, deeply explored the logical starting point of teaching and teaching theory, and systematically explained the theoretical model of teaching design and learning evaluation, providing a clear theoretical support framework for course learning.
Focusing on the report of Liu Junyan on "Course Evaluation and Research", and Shi Yuchen and Wu Gangping sharing the content of the "Teaching Theory" course, the participating teachers conducted a lively and in-depth discussion. They discussed the improvement ideas from multiple aspects such as course setting, course content, teacher arrangement, and teaching practice, and will further improve and optimize in the revision of the new round of training programs.


In the future, ICI will also carry out centralized teaching and research on each graduate course offered, and promote the transformation of the latest research results into course content through the "teaching-scientific research-training" linkage mechanism, so as to achieve the organic unity of course construction and excellent education, and put into practice the professional pursuit of "taking academic education as the foundation and innovative development as the mission".
