ICI Student Cultivation ║ A Number of Graduate Students of ICI Made Reports at AERA 2021 Annual Meeting

In April 2021, the AERA virtual meeting was successfully held. The theme of the meeting this year is “Accepting educational responsibility”. A number of graduate students of ICI made reports on the virtual meeting.

As a key research base of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education, ICI attaches great importance to the academic training of graduate students. Through the implementation of graduate students training reform, it is committed to training graduate students with international competitiveness.

The graduates who made reports at the meeting

Brief Introduction of the Reports

01. Liu Qinglong

Liu made a report entitled “Comparative Effects of Individual and Collaborative Construction of Concept Maps”. Liu compared the quality of concept maps completed by college students in the case of individual concept maps and pairwise cooperative concept maps and their effects on students’ learning outcomes. Research shows that the form of cooperation can significantly improve the quality of concept maps, but can’t improve students’ learning results.

02. Mao Weijie

Mao made a report entitled “Assessing Critical Thinking in K-12 Education: A Systematic Review”. The report systematically reviews 43 studies on critical thinking evaluation of primary and middle school students. Mao analyzed the school sections, critical thinking structure, evaluation tools, reliability and validity evidence. Part of the results show that the future research needs to pay more attention to the critical thinking evaluation suitable for primary school students, and use new techniques in critical thinking evaluation.

03. Wang Yiting

Wang made a report entitled “The Impact of Instructional Leadership on Teacher Self-efficacy in China: Merit Pay as a Moderator”. Wang mainly discussed the conceptual framework of the impact of teaching leadership on teachers’ development in the context of China, and also made clear what kind of teacher incentive frequency can maximize this impact.

04 Lyu Jiyue

Lyu made a report entitled “Professional Capital, Collective Efficacy, and Systematic Capacity: Navigation from Shanghai Teachers' Research System”. She analyzed the influence of Shanghai general education and scientific research system on Shanghai educational reform from the perspective of professional capital, and put forward a potential professional capital accumulation model from a systematic point of view.

05. Zhang Xiangxin

Zhang made a report entitled “The Impact of Social Support on Instructional Coaches' Job Performance: Chain Mediation of Self-efficacy and Work Engagement”. Zhang paid attention to the influence of social support on the job performance of instructional coaches, and analyzed the chain intermediary role of instructional coaches’ self-efficacy and work devotion.

06. Hou Yansi

Hou made a report entitled “Understanding Novice ELT (English Language Teaching) Female Teachers' Conflict Experience: Their Perceived Conflicts and Coping Strategies in Teaching and Research Groups”. The report explored the experience of conflict response in school professional development community from the perspective of teachers. By focusing on young novice female English teachers and understanding their experience in conflict response, educational reformers, researchers and practitioners can better understand and improve the professional development of novice teachers in the community and reduce the turnover rate of teachers.

07. Yuan Mengdi

Yuan mede a report entitled “How does concept maps influence self-regulation and learning performance?”. The report introduced the ongoing changes in teaching and learning in the classroom in China. Yuan pointed out that the use of concept map technology in the classroom can not only optimize the teaching effect, but also improve the emotional experience, which brings more possibilities for students to “learning to learn”.

08. He Weiwei

He made a report entitled “Actor-Networks and Ambivalent Others in Students’ Decision-Making about Studying Physics in a Reform Context”. The report is about one of the major concerns of the international science education community, that is, the students’ participation in science disciplines.


09. Xiong Ying

Xiong made a report entitled “The Effect of Information and Communication Technology Literacy on Academic Achievement: A Meta-Analysis Among Students”. The report systematically reviewed 45 studies on the relationship between students’ information literacy and their achievements, and analyzed the types of information literacy, school segments, achievement types, gender, regional influence and so on.­­
