2022-09-30

Recently, Ministry of Education announced the list of future funding projects for philosophy and social science research of Ministry of Education in 2022. A total of 101 projects across the country have passed the review. Two projects from East China Normal University have been approved, and Research on the Mechanism of the Impact of Virtual Reality on Students' Creativity by associate professor Yang Xiaozhe, the executive director of the International Classroom Analysis Laboratory of the Course Institute, was successfully approved as a general project.

Vice Director of the Institute of Curriculum and Instruction, ECNU

Executive Director of the International Classroom Analysis Laboratory of ICI, ECNU

This study explores the performance of creativity in virtual environments and its internal mechanisms and investigates the comprehensive impact of new technologies on creativity. The history of human technological development is the course of human innovation. They are intertwined. This research teases out the key factors that influence an individual's creative performance and explores how technology can help individuals improve their creative performance. Through virtual reality technology and sound feedback intervention based on brain waves in a virtual environment, it tries to explore the comprehensive impact of the creativity support system constructed by technology on individual creativity and examine its impact mechanism on creativity. The research results include two experimental research designs, and some of the research results have been published in three SSCI papers, one CSSCI paper and a book with Yang as the first author and the chief editor

This research mainly includes

Exploring the research on the development process of creativity and its important value;

In-depth analysis of the comprehensive impact of virtual environment on creativity;

Exploring the impact of brainwave feedback on creativity in a virtual environment and interpretation on its mechanism.

This research belongs to the intersection of education, psychology, and computer science, and explores the influence mechanism of creativity. The research is based on the connection between creativity and technology, using virtual reality as the carrier and base: it constructs a multi-dimensional virtual reality and EEG linkage system and investigate the influences of the situation constructed by virtual reality and the feedback of brain waves on creativity.

Through a way of experiment research, it explored one of the approaches through which new technologies, such as virtual reality, are introduced into teaching practices.

It constructed a linkage system for educational research in a virtual environment and created a series of studies in the field of virtual reality and EEG linkage. The research results have been published in the domestic core journal Journal of Distance Education. The article, Development of Virtual Reality and EEG Linkage System and Exploration of Its Educational Research Function, elaborates the research value of this system. Yang also published three SSCI articles as the first author in the top international core journals: Computers in Human Behavior, Educational Technology Research and Development, Journal of Educational Computing Research.

It discovered the value of virtual environment for creativity and learning based on experimental research and further explored the virtual reality in the course learning in the primary and secondary schools. In zSpace: Virtual Reality Exploration, Yang adopted virtual reality technology in project-based learning.

It enriched the content and methods of course learning in primary and secondary schools upon the revision of high school information technology curriculum standards and the formulation of compulsory education information technology curriculum standards. Based on the data obtained in this study and the theory constructed, it provided an important decision-making consultation for a new round of national compulsory education curriculum revision.
