Recently, AERA(American Educational Research Association) held its 2012 annual meeting in Vancouver,
British,Columbia, Canada. It focused on the theme of "Non Satis Scire: To Know is Not Enough" and invited Prof.
Youqun REN to present his research achievement in the symposium.
Displayed in a title of "What Chinese Students Really Know and Can Do: Evidence Beyond the Data From PISA
2009", Prof REN and his group respectively introduced their works on the research project "Study on The
Relationship Between Learning and Curriculum". In the 90-minute symposium, they brought out 5 academic results
totally, including:
1. Achievement Scores and the Correlates of Chinese Students’ Achievement 2. Chinese Teacher Professional Development and Its Effects on Student Achievement 3. Characteristics of Classroom Teaching Methods in China and Their Effects on Students' Mathematical Achievements and Problem Solving Abilities 4. School Effect of Key versus Ordinary Schools in China 5. The Impact of Chinese Family Socioeconomic Status on Students' School Choice and Academic Achievement Prof. Jianping SHEN, professor of West Michigan State University USA, was in the chair, and Prof. Louise C. Wilkinson, ex-chairman of AERA, presented to give his commentaries. This symposium attracted researchers from USA, Canada, Netherland and Belgium, as well as Chinese scholars in North America.
