Director of ICI Prof. Cui Yunhuo cooperating with Prof. Wang Shaofei, a ICI’s adjunct researcher, published the paper “Teachers’ Professional Development as Improvement of Professional Practice” on the academically top-level educational research journal Educational Research.
As one of the research achievements supported by the MOE Project of Key Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences at Universities, the article has been directed to the penalty of the teacher-dominant position made in the teachers’ professional development and initiated a transformation to student-centered understanding. The authors argues that teachers' professional development starts from the pursuit of the professional status, which implies the assumption that profession is higher than general vocation. However, this kind of assumption may not be correct. There are different perspectives of profession: profession is a kind of practice, profession regulates boundaries, and profession also means mastery. If we understand profession from these perspectives, teachers' professional development is the improvement of professional practice.
