Prof. Liu Lianghua Published Western Philosophy

This year’s March witnessed the publication of the book Western Philosophy composed by Prof. Liu Lianghua, taking an enquiry into historical process of western life philosophy and praxis philosophy.

Centering around the western philosophical giants, Prof. Liu’s writing consists of three parts. The first chapter describes the western classical philosophy, from the Socratic school and its division to the life philosophy in Hellenistic time and the life & praxis philosophy in Roman age. The next chapter deals with modern philosophy of knowledge, which has been laid the foundation by John Locke, David Hume, J.S. Mill’s philosophy of empiricism epistemology, political philosophy and educational philosophy, then deductively inferred the life & praxis philosophy associated with political and educational philosophy of J. F. Herbart, John Dewey and Michael Polanyi. The last belongs to elitism of J.G. Fichte, Nietzsche and Heidegger and the political philosophers’ educational thinking, like Machiavelli, Hobbes and Leo Strauss.
