ICI Student Cultivation║To Improve the Training Quality of “FoNian Class”, What’s Your Point?

The Faculty of Education of ECNU selects 15 outstanding students who are interested in educational and scientific research to join in FoNian Project each year. The selected students are all senior students in ECNU, and they already got the chance to get master degree in our university. The purpose of setting up “FoNian Class” is to train compound innovative talents with broad international vision, solid academic foundation and excellent research ability.

This year, seven students of “FoNian Class” joined ICI. ICI attaches great importance to student cultivation, we actively organize a series of seminars to deepen the reform of postgraduate training mechanism and improve the quality of postgraduate training.


On the afternoon of October 20th, ICI held a symposium to optimize the training mechanism of “FoNian Class”. The symposium was presided over by Associate Professor Zhou Wenye, Professor an Guiqing, Associate Professor Xiao Sihan, Associate Professor Lei Hao, and 17 students of “F oNian Class” attended the symposium.

Associate Professor Zhou Wenye first introduced that the main purpose of holding this symposium is to take the opinions and suggestions of graduate students of “FoNian Class” in ICI.

Professor An Guiqing thanked the students of “FoNian Class” for their trust. Professor An said that if students have any needs or difficulties in the process of curriculum study and scientific research, ICI will do its best to support them and help them to solve the problem.

Associate Professor Xiao Sihan and Lei Hao also expressed their willingness to help students to achieve better in academic and scientific research, and to solve the problems and puzzles students encountered.

Subsequently, the students who participated in this symposium shared their feelings of learning in ICI and their confusion in the process of academic research. Questions and difficulties are raised from the aspects of the training mechanism, requirements of scientific research achievements, and so on.


The present students put forward some suggestions on “How to improve the teaching and training quality”:

Opinions and suggestions

1. Coordinate and integrate the curriculum setting with the faculty

2. Enrich the selectivity of the curriculum

3. Implement the cooperative guidance system

4. Provide detail feedbacks of curriculum assignments

At the end of the seminar, Associate Professor Zhou Wenye summarized students’ suggestions. The seminar not only enable us to make a periodic summary and reflection on how to optimize the training of graduate students, but also help to improve the management of the whole process of graduate training.
