SHANGHAI— On May 15, 2026, the diplomatic and educational delegation from the Federative Republic of Brazil, led by Hon. Evânio Antônio de Araújo Júnior (Deputy Minister for Information Management, Innovation, and Evaluation of Educational Policies at the Ministry of Education), paid an official visit to East China Normal University (ECNU).
Professor Mei Bing (Chair of the University Council, ECNU) and Vice President Wu Jian received the Brazilian delegation. The visiting cohort also included Vinícius Reiner Silva Ximenes (Head of the International Affairs Office at the Brazilian Ministry of Education). The bilateral session was chaired by Zhang Rui (Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Division, ECNU), with Professor Zhou Wenye (Chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction) and Associate Professor Shi Yuchen (Assistant to the Director of ICI) participating as core institutional interlocutors.

Bilateral Dialogue: Smart Platforms, Data Governance, and Curriculum Reform
During the plenary meeting, Associate Professor Shi Yuchen delivered a comprehensive structural briefing on the national policy engagements, and international research alliances of the Institute of Curriculum and Instruction (ICI).
The Sino-Brazilian dialogue advanced deep policy and technical exchanges across five high-leverage domains:
• Infrastructure: Smart Educational Platform Design
• Administration: Systemic Educational Data Governance
• Pedagogy: AI-Empowered Classroom Instruction
• Policy: Basic Education Curriculum Reform
• Workforce: Scalable Teacher Professional Frameworks
Following the strategic briefing, the Brazilian delegation conducted an immersive site visit to ICI’s headquarters to examine the empirical research environment, lab infrastructure, and localized policy assets firsthand.
Pioneering Showcase: The AI Classroom (AIC) Platform
A centerpiece of the institutional tour was a technical demonstration of the AI Classroom (AIC) intelligent analysis system led by Associate Professor Shi Yuchen.
The ICI team demonstrated how the AIC system operates as a data-driven "digital mirror" for teachers. By capturing classroom videos, the system extracts and processes multi-dimensional interaction data—quantifying speech duration ratios, measuring cognitive tiers of teacher questioning, and etc.—to automatically synthesize an objective diagnostic report within minutes.
The Brazilian ministry leadership highly commended ICI’s empirical research depth, noting that the scalable combination of technological depth and pedagogical rigor offers a valuable reference framework for Brazil's own national educational digitalization and evaluation initiatives.

Strategic Outlook
The official visit of the Brazilian Ministry of Education marks a milestone in amplifying ICI's international academic footprint within the Global South. Embracing a philosophy of open collaboration and reciprocal innovation, ICI remains committed to driving cross-border dialogues, sharing Chinese pedagogical wisdom, and co-constructing resilient, digitally-empowered public goods for global educational transformation.
